This stunning destination hosts several prestigious international fishing tournaments, attracting competitors from around the globe. While events like Bisbee’s are widely known, today we’re highlighting another major competition that takes place every June.

Triple Crown Fishing Tournament

The 6th edition of the Triple Crown Fishing Tournament took place from June 6 to June 8, 2019. Contestants and their teams had the chance to compete for cash prizes and recognition, with an estimated total prize pool of $350,000.

With an entry fee of $3,500, the tournament follows rules similar to other major fishing competitions, offering additional prizes to motivate participants.

The competition focused on two main categories, each awarding points based on specific criteria:

Released Marlins

• Striped Marlin
• Blue Marlin
• Black Marlin
• Sailfish
• Swordfish
• Spearfish

In this category, the goal was to catch and release the highest number of marlins. Extra points were awarded based on size and weight before the fish were released back into the ocean.

Largest Fish by Species

• Tuna
• Mahi-Mahi (Dorado)
• Wahoo (Peto)

Unlike the marlin category, this competition focused on catching the largest fish of each species, with no extra points awarded for quantity.

The tournament took place in Cabo San Lucas, with fishing teams departing from the Marina at 7 AM and competing until 3 PM. Weigh-ins and documentation took place along the coast from 3 PM to 6 PM each day.

Beyond the competition itself, the event featured an exciting opening ceremony with live music and a lively celebration attended by all participants and their teams.

At the end of the tournament, **Team TEJAS** secured first place for the second consecutive year. They dominated the marlin category on both days, earning a grand prize of $130,320.
